Cheap trips to Barcelona will allow you to immerse yourself in one of the most spectacular historic centers in Europe. These are the main enclaves that you should not miss within the city:
A mountain located in the heart of Barcelona from whose top it is possible to enjoy stunning views of Barcelona.
You can also let yourself be seduced by the narrow streets and medieval squares around the church of Saints Just and Pastor, the oldest in the city, or rent a bike and walk along the promenade from San Sebastian beach to the Forum. Another unmissable itinerary is the one that leads from the avenue of the Arc de Triomphe to the Parc de la Ciutadella, where you can not miss a break in front of the monumental waterfall and take the opportunity to contemplate its masts, the work of the omnipresent Gaudí. Exit through the entrance of the Zoo, continue along the seafront, overlooking the magnificent Port Vell and the silhouette of Montjuïc mountain in the background, and finish your walk at the foot of the statue of Columbus.
Direct to the Eixample district, you will find the most elegant restaurants and also the most popular among locals. If in your plans are kebabs, tapas or cheaper dishes because you are thinking of a cheap weekend in Barcelona, in the neighborhood of Gracia, north of the city, you will find many restaurants of all kinds with quite affordable prices. But remember that, for variety, the center is your point of reference.
An amazing city where you can discover a millenary civilization. Dine under the vaults of the Roman circus, get lost in the alleys of the old town where the essence of the medieval city is preserved intact or make a vermouth immersed in more than 2,000 years of history. This is the authentic World Heritage Site of Tarragona! A heritage made of monuments transcendental by history, of corners capable of moving us to Roman, medieval, modern and modernist times.
The Romans already knew that the regions of Tarragona were a very important wine area, with wines that are the maximum expression of a land bathed by the sea and caressed by the sun for most of the year. In Tarragona history comes out of stones, books and comes to life. The city has been specializing in historical reconstruction activities.
He hoped that Minerva would protect them. That is why, with the dagger, the Roman centurion Manius Vibio, left written an inscription in relief on the tower dedicated to the goddess of wisdom. Unknowingly, he has just made the oldest Latin inscription on the peninsula. He was Etruscan and commanded the soldiers who were raising the walls of Tarraco, which would be the oldest Roman construction in Europe outside the Italian peninsula.
The traditional cuisine of Tarragona goes barefoot and smells like the sea. Sea and orchard, of course. His sauce par excellence is romesco, which even gives the dish its name. The ingredients could not be more Mediterranean: olive oil, roasted tomatoes, almonds or hazelnuts. Little by little, the restaurateurs most committed to the gastronomic heritage of the city, recover the simplicity and, at the same time, the power of traditional seafood cuisine.
If you decide to follow the Roman route that we propose, you will be able to know the history of Tarragona through the main preserved monuments of that time, moment of maximum splendor of the city, which obtained on November 30, 2000 the declaration of World Heritage by UNESCO for the Roman archaeological site of Tarraco. The main places to visit are:
(XII-XIV century), built in the highest part of the city, approximately in the same place as the Roman temple of worship to the emperor.
The most contemporary city discovers a unique corner and remarkable inspiration in the marine aesthetics that runs through the city, the Balcony of the Mediterranean, a splendid viewpoint open to the sea on the beach.
The modern city coexists with its imperial past, enjoy its terraces full of life in a unique environment, surrounded by history.
The typical fishermen’s neighborhood, where the fish that is caught throughout the day is auctioned in the afternoon. It is a picturesque area, with its own personality and charming restaurants, where you can taste the best fish and seafood in Tarragona.
They are recognized by their fine, golden-colored sand. They have a very gentle slope that allows you to walk in the water or swim without risks. Its privileged geographical location invites you to enjoy a mild climate throughout the year.
Main promenade of Tarragona with more than 150 years of existence and the largest number of modern shops, integrated into a unique architectural space for its buildings and its history.
If you want to buy fresh and seasonal products in a very typical atmosphere, you have to visit the markets of Tarragona. The Central Market, located a short distance from the Rambla Nova, is an important modernist building (Josep M. Pujol, 1915).
Accommodation at AA Viladomat by Silken hotel (or similar) in bed or breakfast.
Salou is a tourist and residential city that has established itself as the capital of the Costa Daurada through the diversity of its offer and the quality and quantity of its tourist facilities. From Salou it is easy to visit other places. It is close to the cities Barcelona and Tarragona.
In Salou you can find a wide variety of international restaurants, including many Mediterranean restaurants that serve paella as a main course, although the level of cuisine is of the “non-gourmet” type, therefore very informal. For more quality cuisine, walk along the promenade towards the marina where there are many good restaurants surrounding the area or near the Spanish mansions along the promenade where there is an upscale restaurant called Villa Alexander. For local cuisine there is a lovely restaurant called Las Brasas. The neighboring town of Cambrils is famous throughout Spain for its seafood restaurants and is therefore worth visiting. We recommend doing it on this last day of your trip to Barcelona.
Accommodation at the Caribe 4* hotel in bed and breakfast + 2-day entrance to 2 parks.
